6 things I would change about Yahoo Publishing Network to make it better and more Profitable.

The First thing about YPN that I would change is the Ad Targeting set up. If there is no ads to be shown in for a particular website, I would want the system to default to the nearest possible subject based on the category the user picked earlier.

This would only work if you use the Ad Targeting or Url Targeting as a option in YPN.

Here is how it would work. For each website that you have you would have the option to choose your main category and a back up category that ads on your site can be shown from.

The Category Tree would look something like this.

Site Url.. www.widget.com - Category-> Pets-> Cats-> Cat Food.

Category Two: Pets-> Cats

Say your site is about Cat food. I would want the default back up categories to be Cats. If YPN doesn’t have advertiser that are showing cat food ads, I want the system to show ads from advertiser in the Cats category. Remember this can only work in the if you use the Ad Targeting feature. If you don’t use ad targeting, the system needs to just have that feature built in their algorithms and show ads that are close to the subject or keywords that are on the site. I don’t want PSA ads like Google shown when they don’t have ad to show, I just want ads on my site.

Next thing I would change would be. Texts Ads.. I hope they bring this feature to YPN. There is a lot of money to be made by having text ads on your site like can do with Google.

Third: Image ads. Bring it to YPN. Image ads work great in some categories and sites like gaming and entertainment related websites.

Fourth: Different Ad Types. I am tired of the standard ad sizes that Google and YPN uses. We should be allowed to create custom ad blocks . I know its wishful thinking but it is something that I would love.

Fifth: Keyword Targeting. Easy. Pick the Url you want and place 10 relevant keywords that describe your site. The system would then show only ads from your keyword choices.

The last thing I would change about YPN to make it more profitable for publisher and advertisers is to show more Relevant Ads… There is no need to say more..
